The story of fat
About fat
- Body fat is the general term for subcutaneous fat and visceral fat.
Body fat is stored as an energy source and serves the purpose of body heat retention and protecting the body from external shock. However, the storage of excessive body fat in the body can cause obesity, which has the risk of damaging health. - Subcutaneous fat refers to the fat that accumulates in the subcutaneous tissue under the skin. Subcutaneous fat accumulates between skin and muscle, and is known to be difficult to reduce once accumulated.
- Visceral fat refers to fat that accumulates around the organs in the abdomen. Since fat adheres to the membranes around the stomach and intestines, the accumulation of visceral fat leads to a protruding stomach. Visceral fat is characterized for its ease of accumulation as well as for being easy to eliminate.
The excessive accumulation of visceral fat is a cause of high blood pressure, high blood glucose, and metabolic syndrome.
